The “risks”: myths to debunk
MYTH #1
Free play, especially outdoors, exposes children to more injuries.
REALITY
Children playing in the streets or parks rarely seriously injure themselves.
In fact, they are more likely to suffer injuries on board a vehicle than playing in the street. A few scrapes? Never mind! Everyone survives them and forgets about them. Experimentation, discovery and inventiveness, they provide an essential toolkit for life. Not to mention that the child who learns to “put themselves in danger” emotionally and socially builds their personality, their resilience and their perseverance.
